The BMA hosts a large collection of art pieces that include contemporary, modern and 19th century works. The works in this museum may be divided into separate departments as follows: African, American, Ancient Americas, Antioch Mosaics, Asian Contemporary, European, Modern, Native American, Pacific Islands, Prints Drawings & Photographs, Sculpture Gardens and Textiles.
The Contemporary Art department demonstrates the diversity of the entire collection at the BMA and includes a collection of works by Andy Warhol. The Prints, Drawings & Photographs section of the BMA includes a large collection of 65,000 works.
The Museum's Modern art department concerns an impressive and attractive collection of which its main claim to fame is probably the particularly large compilation of art works by Henri Matisse. This collection of 500 of Matisse's works is world famous and is a part of the Cone Collection. The BMA is proud to host the Cone Collection that in itself contains an approximate 3,000 art pieces including works by the great artists, Pablo Picasso, Vincent van Gogh, Paul Cezanne and Paul Gauguin, among others.
It should be noted that the restaurant Gertrude's, based at the BMA, has earned a name for itself in its own right and is well worth a visit.
There is no entry charge for the Baltimore Museum of Art, allowing many visitors to enjoy a glimpse of this wonderful art collection for free. It should be taken into consideration that there may be an admission charge for special exhibitions held at the BMA.
